The refurbishment project involves a mid 19th century building and give the opportunity to experiment a new co-housing model. The four-flours building is completely redesigned: the last floor and the roof, the result of an anonimous 1950s hutch, was made more homogeneous with the building and the context by the use of dormer windows, eaves and cornices. The entrance was completely redesigned by giving visual space to the stone spiral staircase. The vaulted and frescoed ceilings on the lower floors were restored. The commun areas were redesigned to create an open air space with tables and a barbecue, a laundry area, a utility room and a bike-repair room for all the inhabitants. The old courtyard which was already enclosed in a 1930s industrial building type, was excavated to construct a basement garage and right above it, Studio 999’s architecture office was created preserving the glazed surfaces and the character of the building. A few years later, in an adjacent courtyard, a warehouse with access from the courtyard was completely redesigned and made over into mini-apartments and co-habitation rooms, used as a bed & breakfast during certain times of the year.
